If they die I’ll still remember you

Jeez, where have I been?  Well, I’m still hard at work on the WPR consciousness comic (Meet Your Mind) and another unannounced project, I attended a wedding and a concert this weekend, and I cohosted a house warming party last week.  I’m trying to wrap up a lot of things before September 14, because I’m going to Washington D.C. for SPX and to visit my friend Mary, and I would LOVE to go with a clear conscience!

Pink Martini at the Oregon Zoo!  This is the second time I’ve gone to see them at the zoo with my friend Kayla.  We love it!

I just came home from my last French class of the summer course.  My mom and I have been studying for a year and a half, and are on track to finish all of the 200-level courses offered at our school before our France trip next year.

Two good
French + Pink Martini = the song I listened to pretty much nonstop this weekend

Some recent sketches:

I don’t mean to be a tease with the pixelation–it’s just around sketches that give away a project I’m working on, and some sketches that are just dumb/bad.

I traced over these guys digitally from that last sketch.  I really like these kinds of digital coloring styles (more, more, more, more, more) and I’m inspired to experiment a bit, although it’s been a bit painful to compare myself to what I’m trying to imitate.  C’est la vie!

Been there done that messed around

Another old line art, new colors illustration:

I think that this is the last one in my ‘to color’ pile. :> Somebody is discovering brushes and lighting layers~! Very uncertain about both, but have seen them done well and would like to learn. @___@

Are you here with me?

EDIT: the final version:

My Monsters & Dames 2011 submission:

It doesn’t look quite right/done to me. I’ll be tweaking tomorrow. Feel free to critique!

For once in my life, I have someone who needs me

Warm-up drawing from today:

And colored version:

The dust has only just begun to form crop circles in the carpet

I’m using this sketch from Stumptown to practice coloring on:

I think I’ll make prints once I settle on colors I like.

Ain’t no clouds getting in my way I must be running on sunshine

Aaaand here’s draft one of the Over the Surface cover:

Somehow I can’t shake the feeling I might make a difference to the human race

Larsha is wrapping up and it is on to Over the Surface! Can I finish in time for ECCC??? Stay tuned to find out…

Today I am coloring the cover:

Covers are strange beasts…you want each half of the image to be a complete composition, as well as make sense when seen together.

She burns like the sun

Previews of my pages for The Legend of Larsha: Swings & Slides by Jake Ingman:

If all goes well, Jake will have a minicomic version of this story out at ECCC! Aaaaand back to work I go!

Did you ever think it’d be okay for me to step into this world?

I’m trying to color that line art from last night digitally, using tips from the website of Lois van Baarle, or Loish. Like most art styles, the way that she describes coloring seems simple at first, and then drops off into “you’ll get it with practice” territory. If it’s possible to get anywhere near this lady’s skill, then the effort and aimless wandering in Photoshop necessary is well worth it. I’m just going to fumble around and try some new things, but I’m already at the point where I’m asking, “Okay, so how exactly do I turn this:

(WTF IS THIS)…into this again…?”

(GODDAMN, right? I know. She’s amazing) I’ll just keep trying!
